Hemananda Biswal, former Odisha Chief Minister, passes away

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Hemananda Biswal passed away, today. He was 82.

Biswal breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, family sources said.

He was admitted to the healthcare facility for old age-related ailments, earlier this month.

Born on December 1, 1939 at Thakurpada in Jharsuguda district, Biswal served as the CM of Odisha twice– from 7 December 1989 to 5 March 1990 and from 6 December 1999 to 5 March 2000. He was the first tribal Chief Minister of Odisha.

He was elected as an MP from the Sundargarh constituency in 2009.

He was also elected to the Odisha Legislative as an MLA six times from Laikera constituency in Jharsuguda district.
