HIL: Kalinga Lancers out of semi-final race

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: The hope of Kalinga Lancers team to make to semi-final round was dashed as they lost to Uttar Pradesh Wizards by 4-3 goals in a thrilling encounter in the Hockey India League (HIL) tournament at Kalinga Stadium here on Thursday night.

For UP Wizards, Nithin Thimmaiah scored the first goal in the 8th minute while his mate Malayalan Gunasekhar scored the second goal in 17th minute of the match.

Though Lalit Upadhyay of Kalinga Lancers scored the first goal in the 23rd minute, the UP team dealt another blow when Nithin scored the fourth goal for his team in the 55th minute.

In the fourth quarter, the Kalinga Lancers bounced back after Gagandeep Singh scored the second goal in the 58th minute and his mate Peillat Gonzalo scored the third goal through a penalty corner in the 62nd minute.

With the team level at three goals each, Tushar Khandekar of UP Wizards scored the match winning goal in the 68th minute.
