Hindu Mahasabha protests late night darshan at Srimandir on New Year

Puri: Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha today staged protest in front of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri opposing the scheduled late night darshan of the deities on the occasion of New Year.

Holding banners and displaying black flags, members of the outfit opposed the decision of opening the temple during late night on English calendar New Year instead of doing the same on Hindu New Year.

The activists also advocated not to popularise western culture in Indian society. No changes should be made in the schedule of rituals of the deities for early darshan on the New Year, the Hindu Mahasabha said.

Worth mentioning, the Temple Administration, after having discussion with the servitors, has finalised the schedule. While the temple will be closed today at 10 PM with Pahada (closing of entry and exit gates), it will be opened around 1.30 AM with darshan scheduled to start from 2 AM.

Similarly, in view of large number of tourists and devotees likely to visit the temple on New Year, the Mahaprasad is scheduled to be available for public around 11 AM on January 1.
