Hirakud dam to release flood water tomorrow

Sambalpur: The Hirakud dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district will release season’s first flood water tomorrow, dam authorities said.

The process is scheduled to start at 10 am after a ceremonial puja. Fishermen residing in downstream regions have been advised not to venture into the river for fishing after the release.

The dam gates will be opened in view of the increase in water inflow due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, authorities said.

Last year, the authorities had released the first flood water from the dam on August 14.
