Historical drama ‘Ahe Nilashaila’ to be restaged in Odisha capital from today

Bhubaneswar: The much-hyped historical drama ‘Ahe Nilashaila’ is all set to be showcased again at Rabindra Mandap here for three days starting this evening.

Following popular demand, the Choklate Productions had decided to showcase the play, which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, again in the state capital during Ratha Jatra. The play will be staged at Rabindra Mandap here from 6 pm onwards.

This time, price of tickets, which were available both online and offline, was fixed at Rs 300.

Worth mentioning, the debut show staged from April 7 to April 10 this year had garnered huge audience support. As many theatre lovers and connoisseurs could not watch the show then, the production house received innumerable requests for showcasing of the play one more time.

The play depicts how the then King Gajapati Ramchandra Deva had to undergo untold miseries for protecting Lord Jagannath from the evil eyes of Naib Nazim. Its story is partially inspired by Sahitya Akademi Award-winning Odia author Surendra Mohanty’s famous novel ‘Nila Saila’.

Directed by Lala Biren Ray,  the play features actors Lawrence (Gajapati Ramchandra Deva), Sofia Alam (Maharani), Prakash Jena (Mohammed Taqi Khan), Shraddha Panigrahi (Rezia) and Manisha Rath (Sardei), among others. The script has been written by eminent playwriters Shankar Tripathi and Dr Pratima Hota.
