HIV-infected couple ostracized from family in Odisha

Jagatsinghpur: A married couple affected by HIV/AIDS was ostracized from their house and family for deadly disease here in Odisha’s coastal district.

The victims alleged that conspiracy is being made to shun them from the village. Although, they approached the SP office for justice, but all their efforts went in vain.

The incident was reported from Kunjakothi panchayat under Erasama block in Jagatsinghpur district where the life of the couple has become miserable after they were diagnosed with HIV positive.

According to reports, the youth was affected by HIV after his first wedding with a girl in Hyderabad where he was working. He said that he was unaware of the fact that his wife was infected with HIV/AIDS. After his wife died of the disease, he returned his village. Later, he was diagnosed with HIV following medical tests at SCB Medical College and Hospital in the year 2010. He underwent treatment at the hospital for 15 days.

After his family came to know the fact about his illness and diagnosis, he was not allowed to stay at home with them. He was staying outside the home after being ostracized by his elder brother. During the period, he married to another woman, who was also an AIDS patient. The couple is also blessed with a son.

The couple alleged that they were driven out of the house. The family members and villagers do not allow them to stay in village. Even they went to the Erasama police station and SP office seeking justice, but failed.
