Home Guards job aspirant dies during physical test

A job aspirant today died while attempting the physical test for the recruitment of Home Guards in Odisha’s Boudh district today.

On the second day of the recruitment drive, the deceased candidate identified as Gurucharan Balia collapsed at the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) ground at Balasingha here.

A resident of Gundulia in the district, Balia participated in the long run event in the physical test category which is one of the eligibility criteria for induction into the job.

After sprinting for few meters, he collapsed in the ground following which the officials rushed him to a government-run hospital in an ambulance.

However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“His blood pressure and pulse had dropped. We have no knowledge about his past history. Only his family members can tell about it. The reason of death will be ascertained from the post-mortem report,” an attending doctor said.

Meanwhile, the death of the youth has sparked tension in the area as it is alleged that the authorities tried to hush up the matter. Even the media persons were prevented from covering the event.
