Honour killing: Father strangles daughter to death in Odisha’s Bolangir

In a shocking incident, a person allegedly killed his daughter by smothering her neck at Patnagarh in Odisha’s Bolangir district last night.

According to reports, Kailash Tala, a resident of Samalai village under Patnagarh block, strangled his daughter for having love affair with a boy of different caste. The deceased, a minor, had fled the village with the boy a few days ago, sources said. When the couple returned to the village yesterday, Tala, in a fit of rage, killed his daughter by pressing her neck at Malgodampada near Bolangir railway station, sources added. Tala fled the spot and went absconding soon after committing the crime.

A complaint regarding the incident was lodged by the grandmother of the deceased girl at the Railway police station. The GRP police reached the spot and seized the body which was later sent for autopsy. Police have started investigation into the incident and efforts were on to nab Tala.

The girl was reportedly pregnant when she died.
