Huge cache of cannabis seized in Bhubaneswar; 1 arrested

Bhubaneswar: Continuing its crackdown on ganja smuggling, Excise officials today seized a huge cache of cannabis weighing around 93 kg and arrested a person near Bharatpur area here.

The accused has been identified as Debendra Rout, a resident of Jajpur.

Acting on a tip-off, Excise officials intercepted a SUV near Khordha-Cuttack bypass and later recovered the contraband item, which was being transported to Bhubaneswar from Kandhamal district.

“93 kg ganja stacked in 92 packets was kept inside the vehicle. Chain of the smuggling racket has spread outside the state,” sources said.

The excise team has also seized many registration number plates from the vehicle. Further investigation is underway and the accused will be produced before court today, police said.
