Odisha: Huge relief for consumers as power tariff remains unrevised for 2023-24 fiscal

Bhubaneswar: The retail power tariff in Odisha will remain unrevised for the third consecutive year.

The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has issued an order in this regard today.

There will be no change in retail power tariff in Odisha for 2023-24 financial year. The rate will remain unrevised for the third consecutive year, said a source in the OERC.

The OERC issued its order on retail power tariff after hearing the ARR and tariff applications of discoms, GRIDCO, OHPC, OPGC, OPTCL and SLDC, sources said.

The commission heard the matter through public hearings in between February 13 and March 4. It had convened the State Advisory Committee on March 15, sources said.

After hearing the representations of all stakeholders, the commission issued its order, sources added.

The OERC has given several concessions to the consumers for 2023-24 fiscal.

The tariff of allied agro-industrial activities (cold storage) has been reduced by Rs 1.60 per unit in HT and LT. The tariff per unit in HT and LT was Rs 4.60 and Rs 4.70 respectively.

There will be 4 per cent rebate over and above the normal rebate on the LT domestic and single phase general purpose category in case of payment through digital mode.

The OERC has increased the off-peak hours to allow consumers to get 20 paise per unit ToD benefit. The off-peak hours for this purpose has been defined as 2 pm to 6 pm in day time and 12 midnight to 6 am in the night hours, sources said.
