ICU facilities in seven Odisha district headquarters hospitals soon

With a view to providing provide emergency health services to patients in critical condition, the Odisha government has initiated the process for setting up of intensive care units (ICUs) in seven district headquarters hospitals .

While ICU or the critical care units have already been set up in Puri, Malkangiri, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, the seven new  ICUs would come up in Nuapada, Baleswar, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Bargarh and Angul districts.

The department would spend around Rs 1 crore for each six-bedded ICU that will have three trained doctors, 10 nurses and paramedics.

The facilities would be available in 20 districts by 2015-16, the sources added.

Sources in the Health and Family Welfare said a six-bedded ICU unit and an integrated Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) complex set up under the National Programme for Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) was inaugurated in Koraput on July 4.

The NCD complex that houses all programme components like six-bed ICU, 10-bed Geriatric Ward, four-bed Daycare Chemotherapy unit, lab and Physiotherapy unit, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
