IDCO recommends action against two officials in contractor suicide case

Odisha Industrial Development Corporation (IDCO) Saturday recommended to the state government for action against two chief engineers in the case pertaining to Gajendra Nath Das, a contractor jumping to death from IDCO Towers here.

Ratan Agarwal and Gouranga Mangual are the two chief engineers against whom IDCO has recommended to the state government for action. Both the chief engineers are currently posted as Chief General Manager (CGMs) in IDCO, said official sources.

Earlier, the state government has suspended Brahmapur Division head Jalaluddin Khan in the contractor Gajendra Nath Das suicide case.

It may be mentioned here that Gajendra Nath Das, an ‘A’ class contractor had been requesting IDCO authorities for payment of his longtime due arrears to the tune of Rs 1.70 crore.

Failing to get his arrears released despite running from pillar to post, a frustrated Gajendra Nath on October 20 committed suicide by jumping from atop the IDCO Towers.

Deceased Gajendra Nath’s family members had alleged that it was a murder and had registered a case in this regard at the Saheed Nagar police station.

The deceased contractor Gajendra Nath Das, a 65 year-old ‘A’ class contractor hailed from Kujanga area in Jagatsinghpur district and was residing in Sarala Nagar in Laxmisagar area of the capital city.

Odisha Contractors Association had demanded thorough investigation into the incident. The Association had demanded a compensation of Rs 1.5 crore for the deceased’s family and early settlement of his dues.
