IDCO tower death: family alleges murder

In a new turn of events the family of contractor Gajendra Nath Das, who had fallen to his death from IDCO Towers yesterday, has alleged that he was murdered.

They have registered a case in the Sahid Nagar police station. The Police Commissionrate has started an inquiry into the case. They are also looking into reason for the death including the murder angle.

” My father has been coming to IDCO office for the last 4 years, he had Rs 1.70 crore due from them.He was under great mental pressure.  I feel they have eaten up the money and then pushed him from the building”, alleged Saroj Das, son of the deceased.

” Inquiry will find out under what circumstances he has committed suicide. We are checking the veracity of the papers found on him. We are also looking into the IDCO angle”, said the investigating officer.

The contractor Gajendra Nath Das, 65 year-old ‘A’ class contractor hailing from Kujanga area in Jagatsinghpur district and was residing in Sarala Nagar in Laxmisagar area of the capital city, reports said.

According to the deceased contractor’s driver, Gajendra Nath was a contractor and had undertaken construction works of Navodaya schools at Rahama and Konark.

Gajendranath had not received his outstanding dues for more than 3-4 years and had come to meet IDCO’s managing director, yesterday in this connection but was however, not able to meet the official.

“He has not committed suicide but IDCO has killed him. The outstading dues should be immediately paid to the family as well as Rs 1.5 crores as compensation be paid to them “, said Prabhat Das,Odisha Contractors Association

Meanwhile, the family along with Odisha Contractors Association is  holding a protest dharna with the body of  Das in front of IDCO towers. They are demanding thorough investigation into the incident. They are also demanding 1.5 crore compensation for the deceased family, and early settlement of his dues.

There is no response from the IDCO officials, yet.
