Owner of illegal Odisha gun factory surrenders before court

Tukuna Swain, the owner of the illegal gun manufacturing unit , which was busted by the police in Badapada locality of Talcher in Odisha’s Angul district on August 10, today surrendered before a court here.

SDPO Talcher, Kailash Chandra Parida said Tukuna who was absconding since the raid, has finally today surrendered before the SDJM court in Talcher.

On August 12, the police had produced five persons, including two juveniles, who were arrested on charges of running an illegal arms manufacturing unit, in the SDJM court.

While Nizam (30) of Munger district, Md Murteza (23) of Baisali district and Mustaq of Samastipur district in Bihar were sent to jail, the juveniles were sent to the Juvenile Home at Angul following orders of the court.

Of the two juveniles, one is an engineering student of a local college.

All the five were arrested from the rented house where the arms were being manufactured during police raid late August 10 night. Mustaq was staying along with his family near the rented house, sources said.

Police had seized a total of 31 country-made pistols, 500 rounds of live cartridges and some documents from the house.

Tukuna had however managed to escape from the rooftop when the police team surrounded his house at Paikasahi.

The sources revealed that Tukuna was involved in small firearms trade for a long time.
