Illegal saw mill raided in Odisha’s Balasore, woods worth lakhs seized

Balasore: A saw mill operating illegally was raided in Odisha’s Balasore district this morning and woods worth lakhs were seized by the police.

A seven-member team of vigilance and forest department conducted raid on illegally operating saw mill in Baliapal area.

The sleuths seized illegal woods worth lakhs and the machines used in the mill, which was being operated in the past over a year here, during a joint operation.

“This was the first saw mill raided here in Baliapal. As per the directive of the Supreme Court, we will take step against the illegal saw mills by Oct 2 this year,” said Soumya Ranjan Behera, Assistant Collector, Balasore Sub-collectorate.

Earlier, two to three raids were conducted as per the order, he said.
