IMD issues thunderstorm, heavy rainfall warning for 16 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued thunderstorm and lightning warning along with intense rainfall for sixteen districts of Odisha.

The districts are Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundergarh, Jharsugada, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Dhenkanal.

Latest doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and spells of rain likely to occur over the 16 districts till 10.15 pm,” a bulletin of the Meteorological Centre said.

The IMD also predicted moderate rainfall at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur and Bargarh districts till 10.15 pm.

People in these districts have been cautioned to stay indoors and take shelter in buildings and other safe locations as a precautionary measure.
