[In Pics] Heavy downpour throws life out of gear in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Incessant rain since yesterday under the influence of low pressure in Bay of Bengal has thrown life out of gear in several parts of Odisha.

The well low pressure area over north coastal Andhra Pradesh adjoining south Odisha and west central Bay of Bengal has resulted in heavy downpour in several districts. The IMD has predicted more rainfall in the next two days. At least five districts will receive heavy rainfall in the coming two days for which red, orange and yellow warning have been issued.

In Bhubaneswar, low-lying area were submerged under rain water causing problem to the residents.

The worst-affected areas are: Jayadev Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Shanti Nagar, Bairagi Nagar, Jagannath Nagar, Behera Sahi (Nayapalli), in front of ISKCON temple, Unit IX, under Rasulgarh overbridge, Ratha Road (Old Town).

On the other hand, the district collectors of Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha and Jajpur declared holidays in all the schools and Anganwadi centres.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeepta Kumar Jena, however, said chances of a flood situation in the state are low.

“Over the last 24 hours, the distribution of rainfall has been even across the state. So, there is less likelihood of any flood situation in the state,” said Jena.
