In pics: Maoists wreak havoc in Odisha’s Kalahandi, torch vehicles

Bhawanipatna: As many as seven vehicles engaged in a road construction work were set on fire by Maoists at Jamakona under Lanjigarh block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district late last night.

According to reports, over 50 Maoists barged into a contractor camp at Jamakona and torched several tractors, a JCB machine and a dumper parked there after locking the staff of the camp inside a room.

Before fleeing the area, the rebels left more than 15 handwritten posters at the spot. It has been mentioned in the posters that the extremists are opposing road construction under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana from Gunduri to Kadam in the district.

They have opposed widening of roads after displacement of people for dam projects. In the posters, the Maoists have also demanded equal wage for male and female labourers.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the posters and started investigation.
