Odisha bagged the first runners up prize for Gopalpur sea beach in the nomination under beach and coastal tourism category organised by India Today.
Odisha Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and Tourism Principal Secretary Arti Ahuja received the award from Union Culture & Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma during an event held at New Delhi yesterday.
In the nomination process through voting, Gopalpur sea beach was placed second in the category of beaches as the best tourism destination.
Odisha is known for its attractive beaches. The state government has emphasized on development in this sector by implementing new tourism policy. There is also huge opportunity in tribal tourism, Buddhist tourism and pilgrimage tourism. Besides, Bhubaneswar-Malaysia flight that will be operated soon in Bhubaneswar airport will strengthen Odisha tourism, Panda said after receiving the award.
