Indian Roads Congress to kick off in Odisha capital today

All is set for the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Roads Congress which will begin in a short while from now at the Janata Maidan in the Odisha capital.

Around 4,000 delegates from within the country and abroad comprising of engineers and technologists will be attending the five day long event which has six technical sessions.

Delegates at the Congress will focus their discussions on important issues like use of modern technology in construction of roads, use of fly ash and other waste products in road construction, on designing of roads so as to prevent accidents.

Similarly, compiling a computer database of roads and its use for better management and undertaking of necessary repairs will also be discussed in the Congress.

Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra will inaugurate the technical session the Indian Roads Congress scheduled for today during the afternoon however; the Congress will be formally inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Tight security arrangements have been made at the venue as well as at the railway station and airport where delegates will be arriving. Also security around hotels where the delegates will be lodged has been tightened.

The city and roads leading to the venue in particular have been given a facelift for the Congress. Cultural programmes will be organized every day in the evening during the five day event.
