Indigo flight makes emergency landing at Bhubaneswar airport after medical emergency

Bhubaneswar: A Hyderabad-bound flight from Kolkata had to make an emergency landing at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here this evening after a medical emergency.

The Indigo flight 6E-946 was diverted to Bhubaneswar as a patient complained of breathing problem a while after taking off from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The flight had departed at around 4.40 PM.

The passenger identified as Jayabrata Ghosh was travelling with three other family members.

After the flight landed at BPIA at 5.55 PM, a doctor attended the 59-year-old in the flight and diagnosed the patient to have suffered a cardiac arrest. The patient was in an unconscious and non-responsive state. He was already put on oxygen therapy and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was also done.

The doctor advised him to be shifted to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention. As per the doctor’s advice, the patient was rushed to Emergency Department of Capital Hospital here.

However, the attending doctors declared him dead.
