Two more persons arrested in the case of fraudulent transactions in the Lower Indra Irrigation Project (LIIP) in Nuapada district, were forwarded to the court on Sunday.

According to the police, one of the arrested persons, ADM of Subarnapur Ashok Kumar Bag, was working as the Land Acquisition Officer-cum-Project Director, Rehabilitation & Resettlement (PD, R&R) in the said project.

He is the first government official to be arrested in the multi-crore fund embezzlement case.

The other arrested person, Kshyama Nial of Komana block, was one of the brokers who was allegedly involved in creating documents of fake displaced persons and was part of the conspiracy for the embezzlement of compensation money meant for people displaced by the project.
