Injured illegal arms trader; aides arrested in Odisha’s Sundargarh

A man injured in a firing incident here last night has been arrested, along with his two accomplices, after he admitted that he was injured in accidental fire as his gun went off inside his trousers pocket, police said today.

GUN BLOODThe illegal arms trader identified as Ashutosh Jha had told police yesterday that some unidentified miscreants had shot at him as a result of which he sustained bullet injuries.

Wary of being arrested, the man cooked-up a story and told police that he was attacked by some assailants. However, he reportedly confessed to have been carrying a gun and it went off while he was riding pillion.

The incident happened near by-pass road in Rajgangpur when he was on his way to Sundagarh from Rourkela on a two-wheeler. Ashutosh, a son of a priest here, was riding pillion when the trigger of the gun was accidentally pulled, injuring him.

He was admitted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), Rourkela in a critical condition where he is undergoing treatment, police said.

The fire arm along with three live bullets were seized form his possession.

Meanwhile, Jha and two of his accomplices have been arrested and police have begun investigation into the incident.
