The deceased was identified as Siddharth Shankar Mishra, who hails from Gundicha Vihar under Kumbharpada police limits in Puri, and is posted as Human Resources (HR) head in ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.

The police recovered the body of Siddharth, found hanging from the ceiling of the room, in the presence of his family members from plot number- 241/3 of the Ashirbad Tower.

Police said they were yet to ascertain the reason behind Siddharth’s death as no external injury marks were found on his body. Meanwhile, police have registered a case of unnatural death (U/D) in the incident and sent the body to the Capital hospital in the city for autopsy.

Police sources said they had to break into the house to recover the body as it was locked from inside. Police found the body in a sitting posture holding a mobile phone with both his hands. His neck was found hanging from the roof of the house with the help of two towels. Some food packets and alcohol bottles were also recovered by the police from the spot.

Meanwhile, Santosh Kumar Mishra, the uncle of the deceased, alleged that his nephew had been murdered and demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter. He also said Siddharth was fully prepared to join the Guwahati branch and he was to join today following a transfer order from his bank.

“Prime facie, it seemed a case of suicide. As we could not recover any suicide note from the victim’s possession, it will be too early to say whether it is a case of murder or a suicide,” a police official of Nayapalli police station said.

“Investigation is on to find any clue on the allegation made by family members of the deceased suspecting murder. The autopsy report can confirm the cause of his death,” the police official added.

Initial information from the police revealed that the deceased was residing in Ashirbad Tower for the last three years and the house was owned by Mrutyunjay Das, who had leased it out to Biswajit Mohanty and Kalia Mohanty to provide the room on rent to tenants.
