Inter-state battery theft racket busted in Odisha capital; 6 from WB arrested

Bhubaneswar: Busting an inter-state battery theft racket, the Commissionerate Police seized mobile tower and vehicle batteries worth around Rs 10 lakh from three vehicles in Mancheswar area here today.

The cops also arrested six persons in this connection. All are residents of West Bengal.

Acting on a tip-off that old batteries were being loaded on three vehicles in Mancheswar area, police conducted a crackdown and detained two trucks with ‘On Army Duty’ stickers pasted on the front and a pickup van. The cops seized around 1700 batteries from the vehicles.

It is suspected that the batteries were stolen from Berhampur and Nayagarh areas, said Mancheswar Police Station ACP Sanjeeb Satapathy.
