Inter-state dacoit gang busted in Odisha

In a major breakthrough, police today busted an inter-state dacoit gang and arrested five members in Rourkela of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

dacoitsActing on a tip-off, a team of police of Sector-7 police station in the steel city, in a joint raid with other police stations, raided a place and arrested five dacoits. However, six members of the gang managed to escape.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Jamal (26) and Mohammed Kalim of Biramitrapur in Sundargarh district, Swarnedu Panda of East Medinapur in West Bengal, Ganesh Samal of Jajpur district and Dharmendra Kumar Mohanty of Govindpur in Cuttack district.

The six absconding dacoits—Md Baboo, Md Iman, Md Sahin, Md Fujul and Md Halim and Md Saha—are from West Bengal.

Police seized a bike, a Hero Honda Pleasure Scooty, a LCD TV, a guitar, clothing materials, cameras, mobile phones, household utensils, music system, trolley bag, wrist watch, weighing machines, imitation jewelleries, cosmetic items and other valuable articles from their possession.

Briefing newsmen here, PK Mishra, DSP, Zone-I, said 15 cases had been registered against the arrested dacoits in different police station at Rourkela and two cases in Sundargarh Town Police Station.

Besides the gang is involved in several dacoity in Maharashtra, Nagpur, Raipur and its nearby areas, he added.

“Interrogation of the arrested dacoits is on while the police are on the lookout for the absconding members of the gang,” PK Das, IIC, Sector-7 Police Station, told OST.
