International Conference on Rural Management kicks off in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The first ever International Conference on Rural Management of the Xavier School of Rural Management at Xavier University in Odisha capital today.

ICRM 2017 is designed to link the different thematic areas of Rural Management with United Nations’ seventeen aspirational Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ICRM will facilitate the congregation of scholars and practitioners from across the world to deliberate and contribute towards the consolidation of the field of Rural Management and how it can dovetail into the efforts towards achievement on SDGs.

The conference will consist of Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, as the chief guest who shall inaugurate the event. In addition, senior practitioners and academics from Rural Management such as Saurabh Garg, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Govt. of Odisha, Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, Independent Director, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd., Dr.Sankar Dutta, Professional Development Activist, Pradan, Sanjay Panigrahi, President (Rurban and Special Projects) at Pidilite Industries, Prof. KV Raju, Director, DMI, Patna, Prof.VivekBandari, Director IRMA, Shri Tripathy, IFA, Commissioner, Rural Development, Ranchi, Govt. of Jharkhand, Mr. Liby Johnson, Executive Director, Gram Vikas, Prerit Rana, Co-Founder & CEO, Agrasar and N.V. Ramana, Ex-CEO, Basix. They will present their perspectives on the focus and trajectory of Rural Management in the domain of profession and education.

The 1st ICRM will focus on exploring the field of Rural Management, and how its thematic areas intersect with, and underpin the efforts towards sustainable development. Clearly, effective management of programs and organizations is crucial to attainment of the SDGs; but as the organizational landscape for rural development transforms, established ways are increasingly giving way to innovative and emergent strategies and practices. Systematic and critical consideration of these is necessary. Papers and cases are also invited on innovative initiatives and practices in all functional areas and sectors of rural development management.
