Bhubaneswar: Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Editor of leading Odia daily ‘Sambad’, was today conferred with the prestigious International Viswamitra Award-2019.
“I am happy, proud and grateful that the Trust has chosen me for the award. When someone wins an award, there are more critics than appreciators. For that reason, I am a bit wary of receiving awards,” Patnaik said.
Recalling his struggle while foraying into publication business, he said: “I was deeply hurt when majority of my family members and well-wishers did not back me up when I decided to do journalism. I am grateful to Lord Jagannath for making me successful despite all odds.”
Patnaik received the award from Swami Anand Saraswati at a special function held at IDCOL Auditorium here this evening. Two members of the jury, Stefania Rossitto and Laura Talamoni, and Swami Rama Swarupanand were also present on the occasion.
The Khandapada legislator was last month nominated for the award for his continuous efforts in raising people’s voice for their rights. He was among 10 veterans nominated in 14 major fields for the international award given by Yoga Vidya Onlus.
