Internet service suspension extended by another 24 hours in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Suspension of internet services in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was today extended by another 24 hours till 10 AM of tomorrow.

The district administration took the decision to curb circulation of inflammatory messages and prevent misuse of social media, in the aftermath of violence during Hanuman Jayanti motorcycle rally in the town.

The restriction on internet service has been imposed since April 13.

Curfew timings have been relaxed in the town from 7.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 3.30 PM to 6 PM for the convenience of public.

Notably, a motorcycle rally was taken out in the town on April 12 ahead of Hanuman Jayanti. While the rally was passing through Motijharan Square, some persons pelted stones at the participants of the rally.

The incident subsequently led to a clash between two groups. Many shops and vehicles were set on fire during the clash.

While trying to take the situation under control, at least 10 police personnel sustained injuries.
