Internet services suspended in Sambalpur for another 24 hours

Sambalpur: Internet services have been suspended in violence-hit Odisha’s Sambalpur district for another 24 hours till 10 AM of tomorrow, informed Collector Ananya Das today.

The restriction has been imposed to curb circulation of inflammatory messages and prevent misuse of social media.

The district administration has closed the internet services since April 13.

On the other hand, curfew timings have been relaxed in the town from 7.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 3.30 PM to 6 PM for the convenience of public.

Notably, a motorcycle rally was taken out in the town on April 12 ahead of Hanuman Jayanti. While the rally was passing through Motijharan Square, some persons pelted stones at the participants of the rally.

The incident subsequently led to a clash between two groups. Many shops and vehicles were set on fire during the clash.

While trying to take the situation under control, at least 10 police personnel sustained injuries.
