IPL betting: 5 held in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Police last night arrested five persons from two different places in Odisha’s Sambalpur district over their alleged involvement in betting on IPL matches.

Acting on a tip-off about the illegal activities, the cops raided the places and apprehended the accused, identified as Somnath Ghosh (38) of Durgapali, Rakesh Nakhatia (28) of Mungapada, Binod Soren (32) of Sakhipada, Vikash Rout (25) of Sunapali, and Babul Pradhen (30) of Tanlapada.

The offenders used to collect money from people for betting purpose by luring them, reports said. As many as five mobile phones and Rs 15,150 were seized from their possession.

A case has been registered against them and they will be forwarded to court today, police said.
