Armed with lathis, local women ransacked the shop and set fire to several articles and merchandise at the country liquor shop. They climbed atop the asbestos roof of the country liquor shop and punched holes on the roof using the sticks they had brought with them.

“It is because of this liquor shop that the male members of our families consume alcohol. After coming home drunk, they unleash atrocities on other family members, including children. Moreover, it takes a toll on our finances as the alcoholics spend almost all their income on liquor while other family members have to starve,” said an agitator.

The women said they were forced to take law into their hands as authorities did not pay any heed, despite repeated pleas.

“Our patience ran out day by day as the male members continued to spend all their income on alcohol neglecting the family. We intimated one and all regarding our problems. Nobody listened to our cause. Finally, we decided to take action against the shop. If the shop is reopened, we will again demolish it. We don’t want a liquor shop here,” said another agitated woman.
