Irresponsible news reporting: Constable recruitment question paper not leaked, confirms police

Bhubaneswar: Media is considered as the fourth pillar of democracy. However, irresponsible news reporting without fact-checking has been misleading many citizens. In such an incident, a media organisation had reported a news claiming that Odisha Police constable recruitment exam’s question paper was leaked and made viral on social media.

On the basis of the news, police carried out an investigation and found out that it was fake.

The probe revealed that photos of the ‘purported’ question papers circulated on social media platforms were not of the recruitment exam. It is being suspected that some mischievous persons have posted the photos on social media to create an atmosphere of suspicion among the candidates, police said.

Needless to say, the journalists/ reporters involved in reporting the news skipped fact-checking, which clearly indicates their irresponsibleness.

The candidates have been advised not to believe in such false news.

“Entire process of constable recruitment including receiving of question paper in sealed boxes, distribution to exam centres by armed police personnel, opening of boxes, distribution of question packets and opening of sealed question packets in front of candidates in each room are done under CCTV coverage,” police said.

“The entire process from storage of question papers in police armoury till collecting and storing OMR answer sheets are under CCTV coverage and the videos are stored for future reference.  Criminal case is being registered against the persons who have mischievously made fake questions viral. Action would be taken against all of them,” police added.
