Jagamohan repair after Ram Navami

Repair of Jagamohan (porch adjoining the sanctum sanctorum) of the Shree Jagannath temple, the 12th-century shrine in Odisha’s holy town Puri as per recommendations made by the temple’s technical core committee will begin after Ram Navami (April 15).

A meeting of the Chhattisa Nijog (federal body of temple servitor bodies) chaired by the chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Suresh Chandra Mohapatra held on Saturday approved the recommendations made by the technical core committee with regard to the repair of Jagamohan.

The meeting decided for starting of repair work based on the recommendations the technical core committee after Ram Navami.

The SJTA also discussed the matter with the office bearers of the Daitapati Nijog since the altar (anabasara pindi) on which the secret ‘Anabasara’ (hibernation) sewa (ritual) of the Lords is performed is fixed to the two main columns of the Jagamohana.

The technical core committee has recommended erection of two steel columns alongside these existing columns.

These two steel columns will be erected near Bhitara Katha (inner barrier) in the direction of the Kalahata Dwara (entrance/door between the Garbhagriha/sanctum sanctorum and the Jagamohan/porch).

Therefore, it was apprehended that these columns could pose hurdles in the Anabasara sewa of the Lords.

However, the technical core committee has made it clear that these columns would not pose any problem in this secret ritual of the Lords.
