‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Odisha over Mahanadi water dispute

Cuttack: Several activists today resorted to a protest in knee-deep waters seeking early resolution to the long-standing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Mahanadi water dispute.

Under the aegis of Mahanadi Banchao Andolan, a team of activists led by eminent water conservationist Rajendra Singh staged the ‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Mahanadi at Gadagadia Ghat here.

The protesting members also took out a padyatra (march) beating gong and drum through the Millennium City.

“We have launched the padyatra from Gadagadia Ghat and cover several areas in the city. After overnight halt at Jobra, the rally would resume tomorrow morning,” Convenor of Agami Odisha, Sudarsan Das said.

Water conservationist Rajendra Singh said: “We pledge to protect Mahanadi. We would protect and conserve it at any cost.”
