Japanese Encephalitis: Death toll reaches 67 in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Oct 22:

With the death of three more children at the District Headquarters Hospital here today, the toll in Japanese Encephalitis reached 67 in 44 days in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

The deceased were identified as Sujit Betti (2) of Uskapalli village under Kalimela block, Gayatri Peda (4) of Sindhibeda village under Mathili block and Sunki Padiami (3) of Maharampalli village under Kalimela block in the district.

All of them died while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital, sources said.

A 6-member Central team is currently present in Malkangiri to visit the affected villages and take stock of the situation. The team visited Palakonda, Babli and Koimetal villages yesterday. It also visited the District Headquarters Hospital to oversee the health condition of the patients and held discussions with the hospital staff.
