Prakash Javadekar The senior BJP leader, who left for Puri to have darshan of Lord Jagannath immediately on arrival, would return to the capital in the afternoon for the meeting of the BJP legislature party scheduled for 3 pm.

BJP pravari for the state Arun Singh also arrived with Javadekar for the meeting.

The minister is also scheduled to discuss with officials of the Odisha government the bottlenecks in getting forest and environment clearances for projects in the state at the state guest house.

Thanking the people of Odisha for giving the party twice the number of votes they did in the last election, Javadekar said the party would repay the trust reposed on it.

Nuapada MLA Basanta Kumar Panda and Rourkela legislator Dillip Ray are the front runners for the post of BJP’s legislature party leader, though acting leader and party president KV Singhdeo’s name is a late addition to the list of prospective leaders.

If the MLAs do plump for KV, the party would choose somebody else in his place to head the state unit, BJP sources said.

Originally scheduled for June 11, the meeting of the BJPLP to elect its new leader had to be rescheduled due to the unavailability of Javadekar. KV Singhdeo has been functioning as the acting leader during the ongoing monsoon session of the Assembly.
