Odisha polls: Jay Panda’s assets nearly double in five years

As per the affidavit submitted before the returning officer here by the industrialist turned ruling party MP, better known to his friends in Delhi and television audiences as Jay Panda, his assets had shot up from Rs 16 crore during the 2009 general election and to Rs 31 crore now.

The affidavit states that Panda’s investments in bonds and shares including debentures and units in 22 companies and mutual funds have gone up by more than double since 2009 and are now valued at Rs 16.96 crore compared to Rs 5.99 crore in 2009.

The sitting MP, in his affidavit, has stated that his wife Jagi Mangat’s investment  in shares and bonds have gone up from Rs 1.04 crore in 2009 to Rs 2.77 crore in 2014.

Similarly, the value of jewellery in possession of the couple has also jumped in the past five years from Rs 9.11 lakh in 2009 to Rs 12.66 lakh in 2014.

The declaration in the affidavit lists a diamond ring, a pair of diamond earrings, a diamond top besides gold and silver ornaments as the jewellery in possession of the couple.

While his spouse owns moveable assets worth Rs 4.34 crore, the MP owns moveable assets worth Rs 20.17 crore. The couple owns immovable assets of Rs 6.72 crore.

The Kendrapara MP has stated in the affidavit that he owns 2.5 acre of agricultural land in Hauz Khas village in New Delhi currently valued at Rs 2 crore as per market price.

The affidavit further states that he also owns a residential building in Bhubaneswar worth Rs 3.88 crore and a Toyota car of Rs 10.74 lakh.
