Jewellery shop owner, staff shot at in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, Feb 22:

Two persons were injured when unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants fired at them in a loot bid at Jadupur in Dumduma area under Khandagiri police station limits in Odisha capital late tonight.

The incident happened while one Raghunath Sahu, owner of jewellery shop located in Dumduma area, and his staff Chunu were leaving for their houses after closing the shop.

Four bike-borne miscreants intercepted the duo and tried to snatch a bag containing jewellery and cash which they were carrying after winding up the day’s business.

Faced with stiff resistance, the assailants opened fired leaving them injured. The injured, with gunshots on legs and other parts of the body, were rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Police sources said, Sahu and Chunu were travelling on a bike at around 10.40 pm when some unidentified miscreants waylaid them in a bid to loot the valuables they were carrying after closing their shop.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, along with other officials, reached the spot and has begun investigation into the incident.
