Jharsuguda: The much-awaited Jharsuguda airport seems to be ready for operationalisation as the first trial landing of a Boeing flight of Indian Air Force (IAF) on the runway was successful yesterday.
IAF’s Boeing-737 flight made first landing at Odisha’s second major airport on Tuesday ahead of its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled on September 22.
Carrying two pilots and a technical officer, the flight took off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and landed at 12.00 noon at Jharsuguda airport in Odisha.
They returned to New Delhi in the same flight at 12.30 pm after reviewing the airport’s construction work.
Such flight landing testing will be conducted very often at the airport ahead of Prime Minister’s visit, a senior police officer said.
Notably, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted a 4-C category license to the Jharsuguda airport allowing it for operation of bigger planes.
