Jharsuguda Bypoll: BJP’s Tankadhar Tripathy files nomination papers

Jharsuguda: Tankadhar Tripathy, BJP’s candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency in Odisha, today filed his nomination papers.

Earlier in the day, he received the party ticket from Manmohan Samal, BJP’s Odisha Unit President.

Later, Tripathy headed towards the office of the Jharsuguda Deputy Collector in a procession with party workers and leaders.

Odisha BJP has formed two committees to spearhead party’s campaign for the bypoll.

BJP Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal has formed an 8-member committee under the chairmanship of former Union Minister and the sitting Sundargarh MP Jual Oram for smooth management of party’s electioneering for the Jharsuguda bypoll.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha Assembly Jay Narayan Mishra, former minister KV Singhdeo, MPs Suresh Pujari and Basant Panda, former BJP Odisha unit president Samir Mohanty and BJP general secretaries Rabi Narayan Nayak and Golak Prasad Mohapatra have been made members of the committee.

Similarly, the BJP president has formed a 14-member campaign committee under the chairmanship of Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari for the by-election.

Former Union Minister Pratap Sarangi, Bolangir MP Sangeeta Singhdeo, Sambalpur MP Nitesh Gang Deb, Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi, MLAs Shankar Oram, Nauri Naik and Subhas Panigrahi, former MLA Pradip Purohit, BJP leader Ranjan Kumar Patel and MLAs Nityanand Gond, Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, Kusum Tete and Mukesh Mahaling are the other members of the campaign committee.

The BJD has named Dipali Das, daughter of late Naba Kishore Das, as its candidate. Similarly, the Congress had nominated Tarun Pandey as its candidate. Tarun Pandey is son of three-time former Jharsuguda MLA Biren Pandey, who passed away last month.

The bypoll will be held on May 10 while the counting of votes will take place on May 13.

The bypoll was necessitated after the murder of the then sitting MLA Naba Kishore Das on January 29, this year.
