Bhubaneswar, Sep 7:

The Commissionerate Police in Odisha today arrested a 42-year-old person, working as a senior accountantant at the office of the Accountant General (AG), Odisha, here, for allegedly raping a girl on the pretext of providing her a good job in the city.

The accused person was identified as Soumendra Das.

He will be forwarded to a local court here tomorrow, Mahila police sources said.

The matter came to light after the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station here yesterday.

According to the police, the 20-year-old girl, who hails from Marshaghai in Kendrapara district and stays presently in the Unit-IX area in the city was summoned by Das to an undisclosed office in Unit-IV area on the pretext of getting her a job that would offer a good salary package.

The victim, who is pursuing Plus Two in a city-based college, is staying with her sister in a hostel.

The police said that the woman was unhappy with her job in a private company and had been hunting for a new one.

She met Das while submitting her biodata in an office in the city 12 days ago. Das promised her all help and said he would recommend her for a job in a private firm. He asked her to reach a particular office in the Unit-IV area on Saturday so that he could introduce her to the boss of the firm and help her submit job-related documents.

However, when she stepped into the office on Saturday, she realised she had walked into a trap. There was no one in that office except Das, who forced himself on her and left the place after committing rape.

Later, local people rescued the victim and called her family members.

“We have arrested Das and conducted medical examination of both the victim and Das at the Capital Hospital here. A case of rape has been registered and further inquiry is on. He will be forwarded to the court tomorrow,” a police officer told OST.
