This is part of the agreement on cooperation in the field of transportation signed on Friday following talks between visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande.

According to a joint statement issued following the meeting between the two leaders, the Indian Railways and the French National Railways (SNCF) will “co-finance an execution study by SNCF for a semi-high speed project on upgrade of the Delhi-Chandigarh line to 200 kmph”.

According to the agreement, the study will also include redevelopment of the Ambala and Ludhiana railway stations.

“The two sides noted with satisfaction the successful completion of a business development study for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed corridor,” the statement added. (IANS)
