Justice Amitava Roy sworn-in as Chief Justice of Odisha High Court

Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Amitava Roy was sworn-in as the 27th Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court this afternoon.

Governor SC Jamir administered oath of secrecy to Justice Roy at a function at the High Court premises here.

Roy’s predecessor Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel has joined as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Born on March 1, 1953 in Dibrugarh in Assam, Roy completed LL.B. from the Dibrugarh University in 1976.

He was enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on February 20, 1976.

After practising at the district courts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia from 1976 to 1981, Roy shifted his practice to the Guwahati High Court in 1981 where he practiced in the Central Administrative Tribunal and the district subordinate courts.

He was appointed as a senior government advocate of the Arunachal Pradesh government in the Guwahati High Court from 1991 to 1996.

A member of Assam Law Commission, Roy was designated as senior advocate by the High Court on June 3, 1999.

He was elevated as the Judge of the Guwahati High Court on February 4, 2002 and later became the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on January 2, 2013.
