Justice MM Das to head Odisha chit fund probe panel

The Odisha government today appointed Justice Madan Mohan Das to probe the multi-crore chit fund probe in the state after the demise of Justice Radha Krushna Patra on January 28.

Justice Das is the son of senior lawyer Madhabananda Das. He was elevated to the Bench of Odisha High Court as Additional Judge in 2003 after 29 years of practice at the Bar.

Justice Patra breathed his last at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after a brief illness. He was put on ventilator as he was suffering from pneumonia and heart ailments.

The one-man Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice RK Patra was constituted on July 9, 2013 to hear the complaints of the depositors and take necessary steps for return of their investments.

The chit fund investors were apprehensive about getting their money back after Justice Patra’s death last month.
