Bhubaneswar, May 1:

Odisha units of BJP and Congress today announced that they would take to the streets demanding ouster of retired Justice MM Das from chit fund scam probe panel.

While Congress will organise demonstrations across all district headquarters of the state tomorrow, BJP will organise demonstrations across all 36 organisational districts of the party a day after tomorrow.

“The commission says that he is not aware of the reason why the commission was formed and why he was made the chairman. It is surprising to learn how he accepted the responsibility. Now that Justice MM Das has made such a statement, he should not stay in the position any longer,” said PCC Chief Prasad Harichandan speaking to reporters today.

“The statement issued by him is a rude joke to the investors. It adds insult to their injury. We demand that his appointment be cancelled through a notification. Besides, we would also like to know why the Chief Minister is silent on the issue,” he added.

Similarly, BJP also maintained its tough stand on Justice MM Das.

“The statement issued by Justice MM Das is unacceptable. It was a mistake to attend that function. It was another mistake to make that statement. There is a need to dissolve the commission,” said senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra.

“We are going to hold demonstrations across all 36 organisational districts in the state on May 3 seeking removal of Justice MM Das from the chit fund scam probe panel and Minister Sanjay Das Burma from the ministry. Besides, we will meet the Governor and submit a memorandum on these issues,” said BJP Vice President Prithiviraj Harichandan.

BJD, on the other hand, tried to distance itself from Justice MM Das’s remark.

“Whatever Justice Das said is for him to defend. Only he can make a clarification. So far as demands of his ouster are concerned, Odisha Government is keeping a close watch on the issue. He will continue to work as usual, if his statement doesn’t affect the identification of chit fund scam victims. However, if it is found that his statement affects his work, a decision will be taken,” said BJD MLA and Spokesperson Shashi Bhusan Behera.
