Kabita Mahakud case: Odisha MLA’s son records statement in court

Pankaj Mahakud today appeared before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Odisha capital and recorded his statement in connection with the case filed by Kabita Mahakud, the woman claiming to be his wife.

Pankaj, son of Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, recorded his statement as per Sec 164 of the CrPC.

Later in the noon, Mahila Police accompanied Pankaj to the court for production at around 3 pm today.

Earlier on April 8, Mahila police station IIC and IO of the case Bijayinee Malla had on visited Pankaj Mahakud’s house in Keonjhar to record his statement. Police recorded his statement under Sec 161 of CrPC after Kabita Mahakud, the woman claiming to be his wife, had filed a complaint with the Mahila Police in March this year.

Police’s visit to Keonjhar to record Pankaj’s statement after he failed to turn up despite being served with notice to appear in person at the police station within 15 days drew flak from the top bosses.

Following this, Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania ordered an inquiry to ascertain under what circumstances a lady police officer of the Mahila police station here went all the way to the residence of Pankaj Mahakud to record his statement.
