Kadambini National Writers’ Conference held in Odisha capital

“Since universally acceptable literature lies in the memory of people forever, it should be universally acceptable, said eminent Odisha lawyer and Supreme Court judge Justice Dipak Misra today.

Inaugurating the 12th Kadambini National Writers’ Conference and 7th Patrika Haata at KIIT University premises, Justice Misra said usually literature is based on sweet content or cubic contents.
“Those who go beyond sweet content or cubic content, their writings are universally accepted. Literature cannot be the mirror of the society and should not be confined to only once pleasure or thought. Thoughts of masses should be placed in literature” he said while citing instances of similarities between eastern and western literature which are universally acceptable.
Addressing the conference, renowned writer Dr Chitra Mudgal expressed anguish saying that the writers, poets, scientists, and artists are not getting due respect in the country.
“While the airports, multi-storied government buildings, roads and government offices are named after the politicians, there is nothing such kind of identification of roads or government buildings and government establishments after the name of writers, poets, scientists, and artists”, she pointed out.
Referring to women’s empowerment of women, she said one should give importance to three things—equality, education and self dependence— for empowerment of women.
“Equality must be maintained between men and women, and make women’s self made through education”, she added.
Renowned Hindi poet and Professor of Patna University Arbind Kamal said, “Odia literature and Odisha are related to our lives. Lord Jagannath of Puri and writings of the legendary poets Jayadev, Sarala Das and Fakirmohan Senapati have influenced everybody’s life”.
He also lauded the effort of Kadambini and its editor Dr Itirani Samanta for organizing such kind of Patrika Haata for small magazines.
Among others, renowned Bengali writer and editor of popular monthly magazine Desh, Harsh Dutta, well-known Bengali film director, producer and writer Buddhadeb Dasgupta, cine critic and editor of Film India Worldwide, Uma Dacuna and Prof Harekrishna Satapathy, vice chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapitha, Tirupati also spoke.
On the occasion Kadambini Saraswata Samman 2014 was given to Satakadi Hota, president, Odisha Sahitya Academy and editor of Odia daily the Samaya.
Besides Anusuya Nanda, editor of Sansar was felicitated with Kadambini Editor Award and Prafulla Sarandi was felicitated with Best Distributor Award.
While Dr Santanu Acharya presided over the inaugural function, Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT, KISS and Kadambini Media Ltd gave the welcome address and Dr Iti Samanta proposed vote of thanks.
The guests unveiled the January issue of Kadambini and Kunikatha.
