Katju mocks Odias again, dares to put him in jail

Bhubaneswar: Justice Markandey Katju is once again in news for wrong reasons. The former judge of the Supreme Court of India has taken a dig at the people of Odisha and dared them to put him behind the bars.

Referring to the incident of Delhi-based journalist and defence analyst Abhijit Iyer-Mitra getting arrested for making alleged derogatory remarks on Odisha, its culture and its MLAs, Katju said he had also joked about Odias.

He seemingly mocked the people of Odisha by saying that he needed to be “locked up” for 43 days before release. Worth mentioning, Abhijit was released from Jharpada jail here yesterday, after more than 40 days of his arrest on October 23.

Taking to Facebook and Twitter, Justice Katju wrote, “Odias, I joked about you too. So when are you going to jail me? Of course I apologised, as did Abhijit Iyer-Mitra. But surely I need to be locked up for 43 days before release.”

This is not the first instance of Justice Katju making anti-Odisha remarks on social media. In 2016, he had posted disparaging remarks on Odisha and Odia race on Facebook.
