Kavita submits docs to Odisha police in support of her claims

The woman claiming to be the daughter-in-law of Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud today produced documentary evidence in support of her claims before the Mahila Police in Odisha capital.

The woman—Kavita Mahakud—turned up at the Mahila police station here today and submitted second marriage-related documents and evidence pertaining to her daughter. Besides, she also urged police to summon the MLA and his son to police station for questioning.

Earlier on March 4, Kavita had recorded her statement with the Mahila police under Sec 161 of CrPC during which she had told police about her marriage with Pankanj Mahakud, son of Sanatan Mahakud and their 10-month-old daughter from him.

Following this, investigating officers had asked Kavita to produce evidence in support of her claims. Besides, police had asked her to explain the reasons for getting separated with her first husband.

“I have produced documents related to my marriage with Pankaj and evidence that he has fathered my daughter,” Kavita told media today.

Notably, the woman had filed a harassment case with the Mahila Police against the legislator and his son-in-law Dinabandhu Barik on March 1.

The police registered a case under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) sections of the IPC against Mahakud and his son-in-law on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kavita.

While the independent MLA from the mineral-rich district disowned her saying that his daughter-in-law is at his house, the distressed woman told media that she would seek paternity test if Pankaj Mahakud refuses to accept her as wife.
